Short answer: A KITAS medical exam in
Bali is a straightforward health screening required for some
Indonesian limited-stay permit (KITAS) applications and extensions. It
typically includes a doctor’s physical examination, blood tests, a urine
test, a chest X-ray (to screen for tuberculosis) and sometimes an ECG —
most of which can be completed in a single morning at
an international-standard hospital or an authorised clinic. Costs
usually fall in the IDR 800,000–3,000,000 (USD 50–188)
range depending on how many tests your sponsor or agent requests. Exact
requirements vary by KITAS type and by the requesting authority, so
always confirm the checklist with your visa sponsor before you book.

What is the KITAS medical
exam for?
KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas) is Indonesia’s limited-stay
permit — used by workers, investors, retirees, spouses and students. For
certain categories, immigration or a sponsoring employer requires proof
that the applicant is in good health and free of specific communicable
diseases, chiefly tuberculosis. The medical exam produces a signed
certificate confirming fitness, which becomes part of the permit
file.
Because immigration rules and sponsor requirements change and differ
by permit type, the single most important step is to get the
exact test list in writing from your visa sponsor or agent
before booking. This guide describes what is commonly asked; it
is not a substitute for that checklist.
Which tests are usually
included
A typical KITAS medical exam in Bali covers:
- Doctor’s physical examination — height, weight,
blood pressure, general health review. - Blood tests — often a full blood count and blood
sugar; some sponsors add liver, kidney or infectious-disease
markers. - Urine test — a basic urinalysis.
- Chest X-ray — the key item, used to screen for
tuberculosis, which the World Health Organization identifies as one of
the world’s leading infectious causes of death and a standard target of
pre-residency health screening (World Health Organization,
who.int). - ECG — sometimes requested, particularly for older
applicants.
To understand what each of these individual tests actually measures,
our tests-explained pillar walks through
them in plain English.
How long it takes
For most applicants, the physical exam, blood draw, urine sample and
chest X-ray can all be done in one visit of one to two
hours, usually in the morning. Results and the signed
certificate typically follow within 24–72 hours,
depending on the provider and whether any test needs a specialist
sign-off. If your permit has a submission deadline, build in a buffer —
see our guide on how fast
check-up results come back in Bali.
Some blood tests are more accurate fasting; ask the clinic whether
you should skip breakfast, and see our note on fasting before a blood
test.
Where to get a KITAS
medical exam in Bali
- International-standard hospitals (Siloam Denpasar,
BIMC, Bali International Hospital) run their own labs and imaging,
provide English-speaking doctors, and are used to issuing certificates
for immigration purposes. - Authorised clinics in Denpasar, Sanur and the
tourist hubs can often complete the same exam, sometimes at a lower
price, if they have on-site or partner X-ray access.
Crucially, confirm the provider can issue the specific
certificate format your sponsor needs — some agents
require a particular hospital, letterhead or doctor’s signature. Compare
providers on our clinics and
hospitals directory and, for issues of accreditation and English
support, our accreditation and safety
guide.

Medical disclaimer: This guide is for information
only and is not medical or immigration advice. KITAS medical
requirements are set by Indonesian immigration and your sponsor, vary by
permit type, and change over time — always confirm the exact test list
and certificate format with your official sponsor or agent, and have all
results interpreted by a licensed physician. MedicalCheckupBali is
independent and does not process visas or own any clinic.
Practical tips before you go
- Get the checklist in writing from your sponsor and
take it to the provider. - Bring your passport and visa paperwork — the
certificate must match your document details exactly. See what to carry
in our note on documents
needed for a check-up as a foreigner. - Book early in the day so the chest X-ray and blood
results are processed same-day where possible. - Confirm the certificate is issued in the right name and
format before you leave the counter.
Common questions about
the KITAS medical
- “Which KITAS types actually need a medical?” It
varies — work, retirement and some investor or family permits are the
most likely to require a health certificate, but the definitive answer
comes from your sponsor, not a general guide. - “Can I reuse a certificate from home?” Usually not;
Indonesian authorities and sponsors typically require a local exam from
an approved provider on Indonesian letterhead. - “How long is the certificate valid?” Validity is
set by the requesting authority and is often short, so schedule the exam
close to your submission rather than weeks ahead. - “What happens if the chest X-ray is unclear?” A
hospital with a radiologist and doctor on site can arrange a repeat or
follow-up promptly — our accreditation
and safety guide explains why choosing an accredited,
English-speaking provider matters for immigration paperwork.
